Description

French ormolu and alabaster mantel clock from the late 19th century, with distinctive Rococo and Louis XVI Revival influences.

Body: Crafted from white alabaster (a fine-grained form of gypsum or calcite), giving it a clean, classical look.
Ornamentation: Lavish gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts throughout the case, including:
Two cherubs or putti holding garlands.
Floral garlands and swags.
A pair of birds atop the clock, possibly symbolizing love or peace.
A central cupid figure with a wreath, reinforcing a romantic or classical motif.

Dial: White porcelain with delicate floral garland motifs and Arabic numerals for the hours and outer ring for the minutes.
Hands: Ornately shaped, matching the decorative aesthetic of the piece.

Hinged gilt bezel with a glass cover protecting the movement.
The movement is marked with the maker’s information—S. Marti et Cie, a known French clockmaker.
The visible pendulum escapement and winding arbors indicate this is a mechanical movement, most likely an 8-day clock.

Feet: Four decorative bun-style feet, raising the clock and giving it an elegant lift.
Base Decorations: Scroll-like ormolu patterns, though one area shows some patina or enamel wear
