Description

French Ivory Miniature House with Conservatory – hand-carved – ca. 1900

Beautiful and highly refined hand-carved ivory miniature house, probably originating from France and dating from the late 19th century, around 1880-1900. This charming object is an exceptional example of decorative ivory carving from European artisanal craftsmanship.

The house presents a classic country residence with two floors and is richly detailed. The facade is engraved to suggest masonry and equipped with windows featuring finely worked lacy curtains. At the front there is a small entry with a door and an enclosing fence with gate. Surrounding the house is a carefully engraved paving.

A special detail is the glass conservatory attached to the side of the house, in which decorative flowers are placed. The roof is adorned with individually engraved tiles and is crowned by a double chimney. The combination of ivory, glass, and the many small architectural details makes this piece a highly decorative and collectible object.

Such miniatures were produced in ateliers in France as luxury display cabinet or salon decoration pieces. They were often purchased by collectors or travellers as exclusive works of art.
