Description

Decorative gilded mirror in good condition, late 18ct France.

Frame Material and Finish:
The frame appears to be made of carved wood or molded gesso, finished in a rich gilded gold leaf.
The gilding has a warm, aged patina, adding to its antique charm.

Ornamentation:
Top Centerpiece: Features a highly ornate crest with two winged cherubs or putti, each merging into a stylized fish or sea creature tail, suggesting a mythological or fantastical theme, possibly Neoclassical or Rococo influence.

Central Medallion: Between the cherubs is an oval cartouche, which may have originally held a cameo, a mirror inset, or simply decorative gilding.
Floral and Scrollwork Details: The entire frame is heavily adorned with floral motifs, scrolls, acanthus leaves, and shells, typical of the Rococo style.
Corner Embellishments: Each corner is decorated with basket weave patterns, round medallions, and abundant florals, adding depth and visual richness.

Mirror Panels:
The mirror is divided into multiple panels, bordered by intricate gilded dividers adorned with fruit and foliate designs, a hallmark of opulence.

There’s visible age-related wear on the glass (slight clouding or foxing), which is common in authentic antique mirrors and adds to its appeal.

Bottom Detail:
At the base of the mirror, a central scallop shell motif serves as a bold decorative anchor, flanked by floral scrollwork
